okay. here are the photos from days 2 and 3 of my vancouver trip. i'm like more than 2 weeks behind with my photo-updates. finals are coming. this final week of winter quarter is choked full of assignments and tests. sigh. the things you gotta do before heading for spring break.
day 2, we woke up fairly early, had breakfast at the hostel, then decided to go to north vancouver to see the sights there. we walked probably 7-8 blocks to get to the ferry terminal to take a seabus there.
here we are. at the ferry terminal. so exciting.
on the ferry. the little spots of buildings, that's downtown vancouver.
where we are headed. no sky scrapers. just mountains.
our 1st stop was lynn canyon suspension bridge. it seems like looking at this sign, that we are near right. but noooo. we walked for another 20 minutes in the cold before reaching the lynn canyon park.
along the way, pretty flowers that grow among the grass.
we are at the park! big tall trees in the middle of nowhere.
in the middle of the bridge, that's what you see. big river flanked by thousands of green trees. the water was pouring out like thunder and there were rapids at this part of the river. the stupid boys love to jump on the suspension bridge, much to their amusement, but frightened off my friend who is terribly scared of heights. it's really beautiful to stand at the middle of the bridge, suspended in mid-air and just taking in the view.
more water shots. =)
one of the many photos on the bridge. the bridge was not long at all. there was another suspension bridge which is 3 times longer but it was broken. so sad. that's why we settled for this bridge instead.
the ridiculously tall trees. i've never seen such tall trees before. they're taller than the ones at bukit timah nature reserve.
here we trekked about 4km through the forest trail to get to this place called the twin falls. featuring 2 waterfalls. duh. its not too bad. quite pretty. not a very big drop.
all of us on the bridge of the twin falls. anyway there were 18 of us right. u only see 8 here because the rest went to whistler. but we, neither ski/snowboard experts nor rich kids, so we decided to not join them. its quite expensive to go there.
more river and forest pictures.
there's this ecology center where it educates like children on nature stuff and conservation issues, sells souvenirs and books and stuff. so outside the center was this lovely and wet golden retriever! he's so so cute. and so excited that we played with him. =) i love dogs. and when he was so excited, he stood up, and i tried my luck and told him to sit. and he did!! clever boy.
lunch is served. we saw this A&W on the way, and just decided to stop and grab lunch. the root beer float was goooddd. and so was the rest of the lunch.
i forgot what this neighbourhood is called. but this is where A&W was. very pretty day.
back to the ferry area. we checked out this public market called lonsdale quay market. it faces downtown vancouver at the waterfront.
as the sun begins to slip away.
the public market! has many many nice things! much nicer than pike place in my opinion.
on the ferry back. beautiifulll.
we headed back to our hostel with 3 giant pizzas to share. was quite nice. played cards and all. when the other 10 people returned from whistler we headed out to a place to drink and chitchat. here are all of us squeezed into a booth to take a picture. why the flash so bright.
Day 3@Vancouver.
after breakfast on our last day, we checked out and headed to explore granville island's public market, which was rumored to be better than lonsdale quay. it was a rainy rainy day, much to our disappointment.
granville market was actually made up clusters of shophouses selling different stuff. there was a kids section, confectionery, the market itself, and one whole street of arty stuff like galleries, workshops (blog glass!) and even a school like NTU's art, design and media school.
near the food place, 2 women with a child came and offered bread to the hungry birds, gulls and pigeons. some pieces of bread were abandoned by the birds because it was not small enough and their beaks couldn't bite them. so alvin and i helped by tearing the bread into smaller pieces. so fun.
the bridge connecting downtown vancouver to granville island.
at one of the art galleries. a mixed-media installation titled the miracle mile. about a man who never ran as a hobby or professionally. he trained for 1 full year to attempt to run 1 mile under 4 minutes. 1 mile=1.6km. it can be done, but to have this guy who never ran before, train for one year, documenting his daily food intake, exercise regime and thoughts. training like crazy, watching what he eats. amazing. and fyi, he completed the 1 mile run (in winter!!) in 3:59.58 seconds.
before leaving granville, we paid a visit to the restaurant/bakery of a cuilinary arts institute and had really really good dessert. yummm.
after granville island, we still had time to spare before catching our bus back to seattle. so we decided to head to chinatown for one last decent chinese meal. had cheap zi char. it was goooddd!
one of my favorite dishes. brinjal with minced meat in claypot style.
so therein my vancouver trip ends. i got many many more photos to come. and spring break is coming! so is spring. weather averages 15-17 degrees. perfect. =)
